Burdock is a plant which is related to the daisy family. It is also closely related Echinacea, Dandelion and Feverfew. Burdock is a herb but it is one that has been neglected a lot of attention. Back in the ancient Greeks used the roots, seeds and green and used them for healing purposes. Throughout the middle ages burdock was used for both food and medicine.

Burdock used today still that facilitate liver problems and digestive disorders. It was also found to be very effective for cleansing skin problems such as acne and also to assist digestive problems. Today across Europe are eaten stem and the Greens still because they hold such valuable nutrients and vitamins values.

As more and more research done on burdock many new and interesting discoveries cropping. A relationship is examined between burdock and its anti fungal and anti-microbial properties, and more importantly it shows signs of potentially fight tumors and can be a cancer fighting agent as well. Research has shown that because many of the cancer causing compounds found in almost all foods which are then eaten and is stored in human fat tissues as burdock may well be helpful in the fight against cancer because of the role it can play in depleting these mutagens.

Burdock is also extremely helpful in strengthening the immune system after it has been weakened by environmental factors. When mixed with other herbs Dandelion and Ginger, it can be a very powerful blood purifier. The most unique fact about burdock is that it has a very large amount of inulin syrup is a naturally occurring chemical in the body that mimics the action of insulin. Because of this, burdock has been successful in helping combat hypoglycemia and pre diabetes conditions.

If you are looking for burdock in the market, it may be called gobo instead as this is what some refer to it as. It is often together with other vegetables or added tofu. Some boil burdock while other Onion Sauté or deep down. Many have said it is not perhaps so good to watch burdock before you eat it because you can change your mind about taking a bite.

It looks like thick, dark and woody but in fact the opposite is true when it comes to flavour. Burdock feels well as a health food, since it has low calorie content, and a high fiber intake. It is also loaded with potassium, iron, and calcium. Claims that burdock tastes like no other. In other words, has a flavour all its own.

The best description that people can agree on when it comes to flavour of burdock is that it is sweet yet down to Earth, with an invitation to tender and clear structure. It is often to stews, soups and stir fries. Burdock is very nourishment and full of vitamins in the form of food, but in retrospect burdock is also an effective herb for bringing the body back into balance.
